Programme Note

In 2007, Michael Bojesen composed a setting of Tove Ditlevsen’s poem Så tag mit hjerte while serving as conductor of the DR Pigekoret/ Danish National Girls’ Choir. The poem's text centres on the vulnerability and intensity of romantic love, giving voice to a speaker who entrusts their heart entirely to the beloved. With quiet resignation, the narrator acknowledges that there is nothing they themselves can do to protect it, placing both hope and responsibility in the hands of another.

Since its premiere, the work has become one of the most cherished pieces in the Danish choral repertoire, closely associated with the Danish National Girls’ Choir. Its enduring popularity was further cemented with the melody's inclusion in the 19th edition of the Danish Folk High School Songbook.
