Programme Note

Dedicated to Galina Pavlovna Vishnevskaya

Satires Op.109 was written in 1960, set around the words of well known pre-revolutionary satirist Sasha Chorny. The composer Shostakovich, dedicated the Satires to the soprano Galina Pavlovna Vishnevskaya, who wasthe first to perform them on February 22nd, 1961 at the Small Hall of the Moscow Conservatoire. This piece has been presented in Russian and German.
