Second part of the ‘Maxim’ trilogy, which was awarded the Stalin Prize, First Classin 1941, together with part I and III of the trilogy.
The Return of Maxim was the second part of Kozintsev and Trauberg’s ‘Maxim Trilogy'. Shostakovich’s score for this episode included. This waltz and five other fragments of this score were included by Lev Atovmyan in his 1961 Suite from the ‘Maxim Trilogy’ (see op.50a).
