Programme Note
The Lif of this World was written for the NMC Songbook, and I wanted it to be something that was suitable for any voice type, singable in any key, and with (or without!) any accompanying instrument. The accompaniment is therefore limited to a few punctuating chords, and a short introduction may also be added by the accompanist.
The text is in Middle English, and the setting is freely modal, somewhat in the manner of Gaelic song. It can thus be sung with the written ornamentation, or embellished as the performer chooses.

Reviews
The Lif of This World, a medieval precis of birth to death in a translation by MacRae, is especially affecting.
