Synopsis:
Violetta, a famous courtesan, meets Alfredo at a ball and for the first time understands the meaning of true love. She leaves her lover Duphol and retires to the country with Alfredo, aware of the fact that she is dying from consumption. When Alfredo is on a trip to Paris, his father Georgio Germont, visits Violetta secretly and urges her to give up Alfredo as his association with a prostitute is bringing the family into disrepute. Reluctantly, she agrees and returns to Duphol. Alfredo is devastated and publicly insults Violetta at a party; Duphol challenges him to a dual and his father disowns him. Only when Violetta is lying on her deathbed does Alfredo learn the truth about her sacrifice in abandoning him.
