Programme Note

Dedicated to his teacher Maximilian Oseevich Steinberg.

At the age of only 13, Shostakovich was accepted into the Petrograd Conservatory. His earliest surviving orchestral piece is a magnificent display of talent and reflects his roots in the Russian classical tradition.
