GARDEN OF LIGHT is full of the delicate orchestral effects and ripe lyricism that characterize Kernis's music, but the emotions involved are especially large. The work is Mahlerian in scale. Kernis gives cataclysmic flourishes, and sensual choral writing in its variety of means and in its serious search for answers...a bold tone in a cynical age.
