Programme Note
The composer had the following stray thoughts when he was writing Woodwind Dances:
“...an out-of-the-way pub at three in the morning......the band would have preferred to have gone home half an hour ago, but the customers are still drinking......four pretty woodwinds are waiting for something or other to happen......they think “Should one go home and resign oneself to yet another unsuccessful evening ...... or maybe one should have just one more beer ... is it happening? ...... at last something is happening ...... he’s coming in - that cute accordion ...... should I come on to him ...... or just play hard to get ...... suddenly there’s a chance for cheek-to-cheek dancing and sweet music ...... anything can happen ..... you just have to play your cards right...
