Eclogue (2002)
- Edition Wilhelm Hansen Copenhagen (World)
Composed for Magnus Andersson
Programme Note
The word ’eclogue’ is related to ’eclectic’ (selecting, choosing, etc.). An eclogue is (a fragment of) poetry, especially ancient idylls and pastorals, as read aloud by the old poets making ‘eclogues’.
I have chosen this title to indicate the quiet and peaceful character of the music, in which a few bars from J. S. Bach’s ‘French Suite no. 5’ for keyboard (‘Allemande’), are the point of departure for a sometimes complex weaving of melodic lines, which glide in and out of ‘harmonicity’.
