Rain and Mist Are on the Mountain, I'd Better Buy Some Shoes (2005)

Programme Note
This short duo for two violins is based on a fragment of a Gaelic folk song from Barra in the Western Isles of Scotland. The title suggests that although the Gaels of yesteryear were rich in poetic expression and the beauty of nature, they were otherwise not very affluent.

Reviews
Rain and Mist are on the Mountain, I’d Better Buy Some Shoes could almost have been any pair of Gaelic fiddlers noodling away on a folk song, until one noticed the tiny idiosyncrasies of phrasing, the very personal way of stopping and starting – reminding one that Weir is a composer for whom the smallest detail matters.
