Programme Note

'Polarization' has several meanings: in magnetics, it is the distinction between the north and south seeking poles of a magnet; in electronics, it is the distinction between the positive and negative parameters in an electrical circuit or device; in optics, it is the orientation of light beams.

In this piece I have used only bass drums and metallic percussion. The instruments performed by the two percussionists are positioned at the front left and right back sides of the stage. The energy created by two performers is transferred slowly in the soundspace as if they are tracing flexible curves and creating polarized lights, however, the energy sometimes collides, creating conflict and explosion. The sounds are spatialized in the soundspace.
