Programme Note
MAGNIFICAT
This, the third setting I have made of the Magnificat text, was commissioned by the Highgate Choral Society and premiered in the 1987 Camden Festival. The first one (1976) forms part of IN ECCLESIIS and the second (Evening Canticles) was used in the Canterbury Cathedral Service to celebrate the 35th Anniversary of the Queen's Accession to The Throne.
The soloists in the first performance of the present work were Julia Dewhurst and David Johnston. MAGNIFICAT lasts about 25 minutes and is dedicated to my wife, Janet.
