Poul Ruders’ festive orchestral work Light Overture premiered on 4th December 2006 in Alabama.
Poul Ruders’ orchestral work Light Overture was commissioned by the Alabama Symphony Orchestra for a special gala concert on 4th December 2006, when the Alabama Power Company celebrates is centenary. As the title suggests, Poul Ruders has had no qualms about composing an orchestral work that suits the festive occasion and which interprets the light and energy that give Alabama good reason to celebrate their power plant. Light Overture is a work that plays on the two meanings of the word ‘light’: it is both a bright work and a festive work, but without being totally unconcerned. The Alabama Symphony Orchestra is giving Poul Ruders’ Light Overture its first performance in the Jemison Concert Hall, Birmingham, Alabama. The gala concert is to be played for an invited audience, and besides Poul Ruders the Alabama Symphony Orchestra is also playing works by Igor Stravinsky, Aaron Copland, The Beatles and John Williams. The concert is to be conducted by Christopher Confessore. Read more about Poul Ruders and Light Overture on this site.
