A major new opera by Hans Werner Henze, L'Upupa und der Triumph der Sohnesliebe (L'Upupa and the Triumph of Filial Love) will premiere at the Salzburg Festival in August. The opera, with a libretto by the composer, is based on an exotic and magical Arabian tale of three brothers who set out to rescue their father's beloved hoopoe bird. The cast includes Matthias Goerne and Laura Aikin under the direction of Dieter Dorn. The Vienna Philharmonic and the Vienna State Opera Chorus will be conducted by Markus Stenz.
