Das war schön! – A tribute to Mozart by Rolf Wallin
31st October 2006
Rolf Wallin's new concerto for percussion and orchestra will receive its world premiere on 17 November at the Großer Saal in the Vienna Musikverein, with soloist Martin Grubinger from Salzburg and the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by John Axelrod.
The five movements of the concerto focus on different musical and biographical sides of the picture of Mozart. The title Das war schön! (That was nice!) is a comment that Mozart noted in his work catalogue when he noticed that his pet bird called ‘Vogel Star’ was able to sing the main theme of his 17th piano concerto.
The work has been commissioned by Wiener Mozartjahr 2006 and Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra who will give the Norwegian premiere in February 2007.
