Kaija Saariaho has been invited to be the artistic director of this year's 'Musik im 21. Jahrhundert' of the Saarländischer Rundfunk from 28 May until 1 June 2003. The festival will feature her music alongside works by Toru Takemitsu, Esa-Pekka Salonen, George Crumb and Henri Dutilleux. Jukka-Pekka Saraste will conduct the final concert on 1 June which will include the German Premiere of Château de l'âme with Lucy Shelton, soprano and the Tapiola Choir. Klangforum Wien will be the visiting ensemble with a programme including Saariaho’s Solar and Amers with Anssi Karttunen performing the solo cello of Amers.
