The second of Sir Peter Maxwell Davies' Naxos Quartets will be performed by the Maggini Quartet at the Cheltenham Festival. This is the second in a series of ten works which Maxwell Davies will write over the next five years for the Maggini Quartet, all of which will be recorded on the Naxos label. The first quartet in this major series was premiered at the Wigmore Hall in October 2002 and was described in the Sunday Times as 'a fasincating work, saved from neo-classicism by the radical way in which it reinterprets the old forms as endless process, yet deriving from them a textural clarity and dialectic strength new to Davies's music'.
