The BBC Singers will premiere startled Grass by Simon Holt at the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, November 29. The work is scored for sopranos, altos, two percussionists, cello and harp and forms part of the composer’s cycle of works linked to the poetry of Emily Dickinson. The cycle, entitled a ribbon of time, will be completed next year with a work for Birmingham Conemporary Music Group; it will then consist of five works: Sunrise Yellow’ noise, for soprano and orchestra; Two movements for string quartet; Clandestiny, for soprano and organ; startled Grass and the new piece for BCMG.
