In celebration of his centenary, Benjamin Frankel will be Composer of the Week on BBC Radio 3 in the week beginning Monday January 30. Frankel, who was born on January 31 1906, is well known as a composer of both film scores and concert music, including eight symphonies, and the BBC programmes will reflect this dual musical personality. Among the pieces to be broadcast are Frankel’s Violin Concerto with Ulf Hoelscher, May Day Overture, String Quartet No 4 and the Clarinet Quintet, as well as many of his best known film scores.
In addition, a new website devoted to the composer has been launched by the Benjamin Frankel Estate. As well as a detailed biography and catalogue of the composer’s works, the site features articles and recordings of Frankel’s music.
