National Youth Choir Composition Prize

National Youth Choir Composition Prize
The National Youth Choir of Great Britain invites composers aged 16-24 on the January 1 2006 to submit previously unperformed works for SATB chorus (a cappella, up to 8 parts divisi) setting a secular text in the public domain. The duration should be 2-4 minutes.

The judging process will involve candidates in workshop sessions with NYC's Musical Director Mike Brewer OBE and composer Richard Allain. The judging panel will additionally include Ralph Allwood and Giles Swayne.

The competition process allows time for further development of pieces after the initial workshop session, and before final submission. The winning work will be premiered by NYC at Bridgewater Hall, Manchester in April 2006, and will be subsequently published by Novello & Co. The closing date for entries is January 31 2006. This project is made possible through funding from Arts Council England.
