On October 22, Austrian composer Johanna Doderer received the First Prize of the Kulturpreis by the Province of Lower Austria in the music category. Doderer combines her international artistic success with a strong commitment to the cultural development and artistic identity of Lower Austria where she lives. She has initiated several festivals, supporting the classical contemporary music scene, and several of her projects draw inspiration from local landscapes and waterways.
“Doderer has developed her own highly personal musical language, which makes her one of the most distinctive composers in Austria. Her music, which is always highly expressive, explores the possibilities of tonality to the very limits; it is communicative and, for all its novelty, speaks directly to the audience”, says Wolfram Wagner, one of the jury members.
Johanna Doderer is one of Austria’s most distinguished contemporary female composers. Her extensive body of work includes operas, symphonies, solo concertos, choral works, sacred music, art songs and chamber music, and now spans 171 works.
