Mark Andre is this year’s Composer in Residence at the Lucerne Summer Festival, which takes place from August 13 to September 13. In four concerts, the festival focuses on his music, starting with his orchestral works and a world premiere on August 22. Im Entsiegeln for soprano and orchestra, commissioned by Lucerne Festival and Theater und Philharmonie Essen, receives its first performance by Lucerne Festival Contemporary Orchestra and Miah Persson, conducted by Baldur Brönnimann. Im Entsiegeln is part of the “Im …” – Cycle, of which Im Entschwinden and Im Entfalten (Dem Andenken an Pierre Boulez) are also performed in this first concert.
Im Entsiegeln explores the most unstable, interrogative, vocal-instrumental compositional space-time signatures, Andre says and reveals the final traces of music as it fades away. As many of his works are inspired biblical verses, this work refers to the beginning of Chapter 8 of the Book of Revelation: “And when the Lamb opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour.”
This first orchestral concert is followed by the performance of über, for clarinet and orchestra on August 29 and two portrait concerts with Andre’s chamber works selig sind … and iv 18 („Sie fürchteten sich nämlich“), performed by Jörg Widmann and Frank Reinecke on August 30 as well as iv 15 – Himmelfahrt and iv 19 – Pfingsten-Echos, presented by Stephan Heuberger and Frank Reinecke on September 05.
