Piers Hellawell’s long and distinguished career is celebrated this month as he turns 70. The Hard Rain Ensemble mark the event with a portrait concert on June 19th at the Harty Room at Queen’s University, Belfast, where Hellawell has held various positions since the age of 24. The concert reflects upon his outstanding solo and chamber music and his enduring creative partnerships.
Hard Rain Ensemble have enjoyed a long-standing collaboration with Piers, both through his compositions and as one of the UK’s most distinguished educators. For this special dedicated concert they present works spanning the past 40 years in the venue that has been home to so many important moments in Hellawell’s career.
The programme is set to include:
Up By The Roots (2016)
Ground Truthing (2018)
Fictions (2015)
Woodsmoke (2023) (Northern Ireland Premiere)
