On May 9, the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra and Eva Ollikainen will perform the Dutch premiere of Bacchanale by Joel Järventausta.
Bacchanale draws inspiration from a range of musical genres, including pop, classic Hollywood film scores, and brass band music. Järventausta weaves these influences into his own distinctive musical language, leading the orchestra towards a dance-like bacchanale.
The work was commissioned by l’Orchestre national d’Île-de-France and premiered in January 2024 in celebration of the orchestra’s 50th anniversary.
In April 2026, Järventausta was awarded the Teosto Prize for his Fantasy for Piano and Orchestra. The jury praised the work for its originality and expressive range – qualities that are equally evident in Bacchanale.
