All symphonies by Carl Nielsen now in the new, revised edition

On July 9 the Carl Nielsen Edition. housed at The Royal Library in Copenhagen, published Carl Nielsen’s symphonies no 1 and 6, edited by Peter Hauge and Thomas Michelsen, respectively. Thus, all symphonies by Carl Nielsen are available – thoroughly revised - in the new, scholarly edition, aiming at both musicians and music scholars. Already, the revised scores and parts have been used for the recording of the collected symphonies by Michael Schønwandt and the Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra, which has been internationally recognized. As for the first symphony, it is now possible to study Nielsen’s rewriting of 33 bars of the fourth movement, which he did in 1928 – almost 40 years after the symphony was originally composed – and which he asked the young composer Ebbe Hamerik to orchestrate. The passage is added in full score in an appendix.
