On 17 April 2026, Die Welt ohne Schwere by Matias Vestergård recieves its world premiere in a new orchestral version with Copenhagen Phil at the Royal Danish Academy of Music Concert Hall.
“The contrast between weightlessness and weight runs throughout the piece … a heavy lament for brass, offset with two more ‘floaty’ outer sections.” – Matias Vestergård
The work was originally composed in 2024 during Vestergård’s final year as composer-in-residence at Festival & Friends, where it was premiered alongside Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 4. Composed as a companion piece to Mahler’s symphony, Die Welt ohne Schwere reflects on some of the ideas and imagery surrounding Mahler’s work.
