On 18 March 2026, Piano Trio no. 2: Descriptions of the Ephemeral by Rune Glerup premieres at Pierre Boulez Saal in Berlin, performed by Trio con Brio Copenhagen.
Titled Description of the Ephemeral, the five-movement piece unfolds as a poetic meditation on appearance and disappearance: Appearance, Simple, Scherzo Without End, Still Life Night, and Dissappearance.
The Trio continues Glerup's exploration of musical form. Long associated with a sculptural understanding of sound, his recent works reveal an a lucid and poetic Nordic voice, balancing precision with quiet intensity. In Piano Trio no. 2, one movement seems to grow from the next, as if each gesture were both consequence and premonition, or as Glerup puts it himself:
One tone follows another. One measure follows another. He rises from his desk and walks over to the open window. Looks out over the city beneath him. He returns to his desk. Ideas feed on one another, as one movement follows another (...).
