On January 16, 2026, the Singapore Symphony Orchestra will present the world premiere of Quadriga, a new concert suite by Søren Nils Eichberg. Written for the Rascher Saxophone Quartet and conducted by Kolja Blacher, the performance will take place at the Esplanade Concert Hall, Singapore. Commissioned by the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Quadriga explores the fascinating space between dream and reality. Eichberg explains:
For years I have been fascinated by the logic and narratives of dreams. While dreams often feel logical and consequential as long as we are asleep, they may appear strangely erratic and capricious once we awake and try to remember.
My music takes place in the state right between: not quite awake, not quite asleep on the verge between dream and reality. This piece consist of ten short pieces, separate movements or „dream sequences“ which each have their own short narrative all of which form a larger one all together.
The title Quadriga refers to the ancient two-wheeled chariot drawn by four horses side by side – a symbol of triumph in Greek and Roman culture. In classical mythology, gods and heroes are often depicted driving a quadriga across the sky, as Helios and Apollo do to bring daylight and banish the night.
