This holiday season, Lincoln Center Theater brings Gian Carlo Menotti’s beloved holiday opera Amahl and the Night Visitors to the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater in a new, intimate production directed by Tony® Award-winning director Kenny Leon. Leading the cast is GRAMMY® and Olivier® Award-winning mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato.
Running from December 16, 2025, through January 4, 2026, audiences will experience Menotti’s timeless one-act opera in a fresh theatrical setting, with 23 performances including several family-friendly matinees. Music Director Steven Osgood leads the ensemble in what marks LCT’s first seasonal family offering, presented in association with The Metropolitan Opera. Joining DiDonato in the cast are Albert Rhodes, Jr. as Amahl, Todd Thomas as King Melchior, Philip Boykin as King Balthazar, and Bernhard Holcomb as King Kaspar. The production also features choreography by Ioana Alfonso.
A cornerstone of American opera since its 1951 premiere, Amahl and the Night Visitors remains one of Menotti’s most cherished creations. This new production highlights the work’s enduring relevance as a story of compassion, imagination, and the shared spirit of the holiday season.
