Wise Music Group congratulate all of the incredible composers who took home awards from last night's Ivors Classical Awards ceremony. The evening was a great celebration of the UK's outstanding music scene and honoured the incredible talent and groundbreaking work of the countries leading composers.

Among the winners were several composers whose work is represented in Wise Music Group's catalogue, including Helen Grime, Jonathan Dove, and Anoushka Shankar.

Helen Grime's Folk with libretto by Zoe Gilbert (based on her book of the same name) took home the prize for Best Orchestral Composition. The work was written for soprano Claire Booth who premiered the work with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and conductor Ryan Wigglesworth in September 2024 in Glasgow. The work explores tales of folklore and and on a fictional island inspired by the Isle of Man and its inhabitants.

The award for Best Community and Participation Composition went to Jonathan Dove and librettist April De Angelis' community opera Uprising, which was commissioned by Glyndebourne and Saffron Hall Trust. Jim and Hilary Potter initiated and generously supported the project. The work explores the power of activism and empowers young people to take action in the face of the climate crisis through a tale which follows a young girl in her journey from refusing to go to school to enrolling in a global movement in their fight for the future. The full-length opera has a cast of professional singers, youth opera chorus, an adult community chorus, professional orchestra alongside young instrumentalists and a youth percussion ensemble on stage.

Anoushka Shankar took home the Ivor Novello Award for Innovation which celebrates composers whose creativity expands the boundaries of music and inspires their peers. The award recognises Anoushka's groundbreaking work as a composer, sitarist and visionary, changing the world's view of the Sitar and inspiring other musicians worldwide to embrace music's power to connect, uplift and inspire.

Further congratulations to composer Debbie Wiseman whose exceptional work for film and tv earned her the award for Outstanding Contribution to Screen Composition.
