On the evening of October 29, Bard Conservatory of Music marks its 20th anniversary with a performance at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall. Opening the program is North American premiere of Choral Concerto: Nine by Bard Conservatory Dean Tan Dun, which reimagines the ideals of Beethoven’s final symphony through a contemporary global lens.

Tan Dun leads the Bundesjugendorchester (National Youth Orchestra of Germany) and the World Youth Choir at the Bonn Opera House, streamed by Deutsche Welle.

Scored for chorus and orchestra, the text for Nine is arranged by the composer from poems by Qu Yuan (BC. 340), Laozi (BC. 571), Li Po (AD. 701), and Friedrich Schiller (AD. 1759). They are sung in English and non-word-sounds conceived by Tan Dun.
