We are delighted to share the news that Carola Bauckholt is this year’s recipient of the Louis Spohr Musikpreis awarded by the city of Braunschweig. The award, endowed with € 10.000, honors composers with international prestige and great importance for contemporary music.

The jury justifies its vote as follows:

“The complete works of German composer Carola Bauckholt are characterized by comprehensive stylistic coherence and an extraordinary career. Since her first compositional works in the 1980s, Carola Bauckholt has been researching and experimenting with sounds and noises, combined with the ability to link the production and gesture of each sound to a dramaturgical project that is always original, logical, and surprising. […] Her work in various genres and areas of production is characterized by compositional coherence, irony, amusement, and social criticism, but also shows that music is an absolute language that cannot be verbalized, and that only a few composers can speak with such mastery and precision.”

The award ceremony takes place on October 19 as part of the second symphony concert of the Staatsorchester Braunschweig which will include Bauckholt’s work Aus dem Geröll for percussion solo and orchestra.

Congratulations Carola Bauckholt!
