The Oslo International Church Music Festival presents the World Premiere of Bent Sørensen’s St John Passion.
This year's festival will present the first part of the work on March 25, 2025.
Following the critical acclaim of his St Matthew Passion, commissioned by the same festival, Sørensen now offers a new beautiful and fragile interpretation of the Passion narrative.
Under the direction of Paul Hillier, Ensemble Allegria and grammy-winning vocal ensemble Theatre of Voices will bring Sørensen’s music to life at the Oslo Cathedral. For his new Passion, Sørensen intertwines excerpts from various apocryphal texts, including The Secret Book of John and the gospels of Thomas, Mary, and Philip.
This premiere marks the unveiling of the first part of St John Passion, with the second part set to debut at the 2026 festival, offering the opportunity to experience the unfolding of a major new work over two seasons.
