Asian premiere of the Vernon Duke Concerto for Violin

Chloë Hanslip and Singapore Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Andrew Litton, present the Asian premiere of the Violin Concerto by Vernon Duke in a concert next month.

The concerto is in three movements (Allegro molto; Valse and Tema con variazione e coda) and combines influences from Prokofiev, Hindemith, Barber and Korngold. It is quite a departure from Duke’s usual Tin-Pan-Alley style of composition. The middle movement is a slow and shapely waltz, tuneful and displaying an unusual pizzicato opening.

Rounding off the program is Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6 in B minor Op. 74 “Pathétique”.
