On August 7, at the Darmstadt Summer Course 2023, For George Lewis by Tyshawn Sorey will be performed by the Spółdzielnia Muzyczna Contemporary Ensemble. The work is dedicated to composer George E. Lewis who influenced Sorey and was his teacher at Columbia University.
For George Lewis, a work for chamber orchestra of 16 players, was premiered by Alarm Will Sound in St. Louis, Missouri, in November 2019.
The same day, George Lewis will present the book Composing while Black – Afrodiasporic New Music Today that he edited together with Harald Kisiedu.
Both composers will be present at Darmstadt.
