On October 15 a new opera The Girl, The Hunter and The Wolf by Vasco Mendonça will receive its world premiere at Dutch National Opera.

The libretto, based on the traditional story, was written by Gonçalo M. Tavares.

Inne Goris directs the premiere production which will be conducted by Alphonse Cemin.

The Girl, The Hunter and The Wolf is a musical, tragicomic performance for anyone aged 6 and over. The audience will experience classic fairy tales through the eyes of the wolf. From the wolf’s point of view, we learn that instead of wishing harm to the Three Little Pigs or Red Riding Hood, the wolf was just a victim of prejudice, a series of unfortunate and funny coincidences, severe misunderstanding and ultimately, not the villain we are accustomed to, but the poor victim of a gross judiciary mistake.

By presenting a different perspective to how the wolf is generally perceived and an imaginative setting of a traditional story, The Girl, The Hunter and The Wolf is addressing key issues in the development of a sense of community that, instead of hatred and bigotry, must be based on civility, tolerance and shared experiences.
