Master of the Queen's Music, Judith Weir CBE composed a new anthem for the National Service of Thanksgiving to Celebrate her Majesty's Platinum Jubilee which took place at St Paul's Cathedral, London on June 3. It was premiered by the choirs of St Paul’s Cathedral and Her Majesty’s Chapel Royal conducted by Andrew Carwood, with William Fox, organ.

By Wisdom is a five-minute work for four-part mixed voice choir with organ and sets a text from the Book of Proverbs. The composer writes:

Amongst many ancient writings which examine the importance of Wisdom in our life on earth is the Old Testament Book of Proverbs. The short selection of verses (from Proverbs, Chapter 3) set to music in this anthem celebrate ‘the one who finds wisdom, the one who gains understanding’.

The service was broadcast live around the globe. You can watch an interview with Judith Weir and Sophie Raworth on the BBC1 television broadcast on BBCiPlayer here.
