World Premiere of New Trombone Concerto by Tan Dun with Jörgen van Rijen
Tan Dun

Three Muses in Video Game, the new trombone concerto by Tan Dun, will be premiered at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam on November 5th, 2021, by the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and their principal trombonist Jörgen van Rijen.

Travel complications due to the pandemic will prevent Tan Dun from conducting, but South Korean conductor Shiyeon Sung has stepped up to the podium to make her Royal Concertgebouw debut.

The concerto’s co-commissioners are the Seattle Symphony, the Hong Kong Philharmonic, and the Orchestre Philharmonie du Luxembourg & Philharmonie Luxembourg. Jörgen van Rijen will be the soloist with the Hong Kong Philharmonic and Orchestre du Philharmonie Luxembourg at their premieres.

The Seattle Symphony will give the US premiere during “Celebrate Asia” on March 20th, 2022. Ko-ichiro Yamamoto, the orchestra’s principal trombone, will be soloist, with Kahchun Wong conducting.
