The new piece, scored for a mixed ensemble of seven players and lasting around nine minutes, has been commissioned by New European Ensemble as part of a two-concert composer portrait taking place over the weekend, featuring a wide range of the composer’s chamber output and culminating in a performance of one of her signature works, In the Light of Air

Other performances of Thorvaldsdottir’s music in the coming months include METACOSMOS with the Boston Symphony under Hannu Lintu and LA Phil under Karina Canellakis, her most recent orchestral work AIŌN in Reykjavik and at the Arctic Arts Festival, and multiple performances of Enigma by Spektral Quartet, including at Chicago’s Adler Planetarium.
