Ideal Chaos Festival

On January 21 the MDR Symphony Orchestra and the Leipzig University Choir celebrate Philip Glass’s 80th birthday with a concert of music by ‘Pioneering American Composers’, including his Violin Concerto No 1. Performing the concerto is the 22-year-old American violinist Chad Hoopes, first prize winner in the Young Artists Division of the Yehudi Menuhin International Violin Competition. Led by Stefan Asbury, the orchestra also mark the 60th birthday year of David Lang by performing the beloved cheating, lying, stealing and how to pray. The programme will conclude with a contemporary American classic, Charles Ives’s Symphony No 4. The concert will take place at the Gewandhaus Leipzig and will form part of the ‘Ideal Chaos’ Festival.
