Klanspuren Schwaz 2014 - gazing North
At Klangspuren Schwaz renowned contemporary composers and ensembles from Nordic countries will be juxtaposed with outstanding Tyrolean new music ensembles. A dialogue of contrasts also extends to this year's choice of Composers in Residence: the aesthetic worlds of the great Danish composer Hans Abrahamsen and the Tyrolean composer and performer Wolfgang Mitterer could not be further apart. Their music will be part of the 11th KLANGSPUREN INTERNATIONAL ENSEMBLE MODERN ACADEMY.

The festival will open with an orchestral concert on September 11 encompassing the world premiere of Hans Abrahamsen’s Choral für Luigi Nono and Stratifications. Ensemble Modern will follow with a performance of his ensemble work Wald and the Arditti Quartet with Frode Haltli, accordion will perform String Quartet No 4, Air (solo accordion) and Three Little Nocturnes (accordion and string quartet) in addition to Concerning King by Rolf Wallin

Other pieces being performed at the festival include Hans Abrahamsen’s Märchenbilder and an excerpt of Schnee as well as works by Magnus Lindberg (Corrente) and two more works by Rolf Wallin: Stonewave (for 3 percussionists) and Kaleidophony (for brass ensemble)

The final concert on September 27 will be given by the Danish Esbjerg Ensemble featuring the world premiere of The Coastline Piece III: West by Juliana Hodkinson, a Nielsen arrangement by Abrahamsen of Three Piano Pieces and Pantomime – Papillons by Bent Sørensen.
