Minimalist Jukebox Festival Spins a Multitude of Minimal Composers
The Los Angeles Philharmonic's Minimalist Jukebox Festival presents a number of premieres, namely of Michael Gordon, Missy Mazzoli, and Terry Riley. Minimalist Jukebox is a stellar platform that brings together major canonic works beside outstanding newcomers on the minimalist scene.

The festival displays a rich range of Minimalist performances from March through May. Performances are held at Disney Hall and the Hollywood Bowl, with partner satellite concerts around Los Angeles. The following events highlight some of the best this exciting festival offers:
Green Umbrella: Maximum Minimalism (Tuesday, April 8) A program with various works, including David Lang's death speaks and Missy Mazzoli's world premiere Sinfonia (for Orbiting Spheres), performed by the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Minimalist Dream House (Wednesday, April 9) The intrepid piano duo, the Labèque sisters, perform three informal 40-minute sets including Four Movements and 1+1 by Philip Glass and Riley's The Bird of Paradise and Persian Surgery Dervishes in Disney Hall's Colburn Celebrity Series. Gordon, Riley, Adams (April 11, 12, 13) The US premiere of Gordon's Sunshine of Your Love (inspired by a song by Cream) and the world premiere of Riley's organ concerto At the Royal Majestic are performed by the Los Angeles Philharmonic under the baton of composer John Adams. Glass: The Civil Wars – Rome Section (Thursday, April 17) The Los Angeles Philharmonic is joined by the Los Angeles Master Chorale to perform Philip Glass' rumination on war and peace. Partner Presentations will include a performance by the Lyris and Calder Quartets of Glass' Mad Rush and film-score Mishima in Santa Monica (April 5), Lang's the little match girl passion with the Los Angeles Master Chorale at Disney Hall (April 6), Riley's In C at The Hammer Museum (April 12), and the Areté Vocal Ensemble covering music by Riley, Glass, Lang among others at California Lutheran University (April 13).
