SUITE FROM HEART OF DARKNESS BY TARIK O’REGAN WITH SAMUEL WEST
The London Premiere of the Suite from Heart of Darkness for narrator and orchestra by Tarik O’Regan will take place at Cadogan Hall on April 23. Nicholas Collon will conduct the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, with Samuel West as narrator.
Inspired by Joseph Conrad’s novella, O’Regan’s opera has already met with great acclaim for its ‘music of startling beauty’ (The Observer) and ‘a magical and haunting sound-world’ (The Telegraph). The spoken text for the suite is written by Tom Phillips, based on his original libretto for the opera.
Tarik O’Regan comments: ‘Just as for the opera from which this new work is extrapolated, putting this suite together has been a really exciting team effort. I'm delighted to be working with Tom again, and we're both thrilled to be partnering with Sam, Nick and the RPO. We've gone back to the raw materials that went into making the opera and have reworked them into something quite different. This is now a more intimate and personal tale, told directly by a narrator, bolstered by the full forces of a large symphony orchestra.’
