The eponymous anti-hero, Jamie Allen was a ne’er-do-well, a horse thief, a mercenary and a highwayman. He was sentenced to death and thrown into Durham jail where the Duke intervened to reduce his sentence from death to life imprisonment. The drama takes place in jail as Jamie recalls his colourful life. “There’s a lot of fast music, thousands of bars of it.” - John Harle
