Henze's "An den Wind"
7th May 2012
An den Wind, a work for choir and ensemble by the venerable Hans Werner Henze, will premiere on May 26 at the Thomaskirche Leipzig. It is the third work in a series of commissions by the Thomanerchor celebrating 800 years since its founding, Thomana2012.
The five poems about Pentecost by Christian Lehnert revisit the biblical story and are set specifically for the Thomanerchor, a boys choir of great tradition with Johann Sebastian Bach being the most prominent Thomaskantor to name. The choir will be joined by musicians of the Gewandhaus Orchestra and conducted by today’s Thomaskantor Georg Christoph Biller on Saturday May 26 and Sunday May 27.
