John Tavener in Fribourg for International Festival
The International Festival of Sacred Music in Fribourg and The High School of Music in Lausanne, Fribourg, are honouring the music of Sir John Tavener from 21 to 25 November 2011.

Recognised as one of the greatest living composers of sacred music, Tavener has been invited alongside well-known interpreter of his music, Martin Neary, to attend interpretation workshops of his chamber, choral and orchestral music.

With the festival’s aim of promoting contemporary sacred music, and giving students the opportunity to play the music in the presence of a composer, the climax will be a concert on 25 November at the church of Saint Michael College. The concert will also be recorded for future radio broadcast.

Works to be performed include The Protecting Veil, Hymn to the Mother of God, Trisagion and Lament for Phaedra.

Works will also be performed at the 14th Fribourg International Festival of Sacred Music next year. Details to follow.
