Britta Byström in Germany

Britta Byström in Germany
After a very busy summer with world premieres of the Messiaen-Quartet Letter in April and the horn trio Kinderszenen, young Swedish Composer Britta Byström can look forward to orchestral premieres in Germany during the holiday season.

The Guerzenich-Orchester in Cologne gives Byström’s Der Vogel der Nacht its German premiere on December 18-20 at the Cologne Philhamonie.

Der Vogel der Nacht was commissioned and written as a prelude to Mahler’s 3rd Symphony. The piece quotes and uses an oboe motif from Mahler’s symphony – originally labeled 'Der Vogel der Nacht' – as well as clearly audible Mahleresque textures. Byström’s little masterpiece was premiered by Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen.
