Menotti’s Amahl most performed opera in North America
G. Schirmer is pleased to announce that OPERA America has identified Gian Carlo Menotti’s Amahl and the Night Visitors as being the most performed opera in North America among works produced by OPERA America Members since 1991.

In the same directory, Mark Adamo’s Little Women is ranked as the seventh most produced opera in North America.

According to the organization’s Quick Opera Facts, Little Women and Menotti’s The Medium were among the ten most frequently performed North American operas during the 2008-2009 season. Also receiving a great deal of attention in the last year is the newly reduced version of John Corigliano's The Ghosts of Versailles with performances in St. Louis, Wexford and  Northwestern University and productions soon to follow at the Aspen Music Festival and School  and Vancouver Opera.  To better acquaint yourself with these new opera classics, please contact us for materials or visit our website and Schirmer on Demand.

And not to be forgotten! July 7, 2011 is the 100th anniversary of Gian Carlo Menotti’s birth.  It’s not too late to plan celebratory tributes in your programming for America’s Number 1 opera composer.
