As part of the Southbank Centre’s Chorus! festival, Martin Creed has created a version of his Work No. 409 for the JCB glass lift in London’s Royal Festival Hall. Visitors’ journeys will be accompanied by the recorded voices of the South Bank Centre’s Voicelab singers, rising as the lift rises and descending as it falls. The work will be launched by the artist at 2pm on May 1 and can be heard for the duration of the festival until 11pm on May 9.
Inspired by Creed’s work, singers will be performing live in other lifts around the RFH over the course of the week as part of The Live Elevator Music Project.
