Schubert rediscovered
On March 27 2010 Staatstheater Saarbrücken gave the first staged performance of Sakontala, an opera fragment by Franz Schubert reconstructed and completed by Karl Aage Rasmussen.

In 1820 Franz Schubert worked on a large-scale romantic opera based on the drama Sakontala by the classical Indian poet Kalidasa, the so-called Indian Homer. Due to Schubert's early death this work remained a fragment. Recently Karl Aage Rasmussen reviewed all the existing and newly discovered music and libretto fragments and formed a two-act opera by empathizing with Schubert's style and intentions.

A complete recording of Sakontala was released in 2008 on the Carus label.
